21st Century Learning
"The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air"
-Galadriel, The Lord Of the Rings
The world we live in is vivid, there is no denying that. It has always been like that, and it will always be like this. If one wants to survive or excel, he must adapt. As everyting, the area of learning and education has changed, and it's changing rapidy even now. As we witness world's progress through the stars or it's race to a giant dumpster which wall-e had already foreseen, we -as teachers and learners- must adapt. Now, the world expects different skills and talents from us. Skills that are different than what our parents and families tought us. In these days, just being hardworking probably will leave you with an unhappy life and a minimum wage job. So if we want to be teachers with some quality, or at least, if we want to be just above mediocre, we need to know, how this thing works today.
There are 4Cs that we need to know; Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity and Communication. As teachers, we must understand what those mean in our classrooms. We must urge our students to utilize and improve these skills. They need to be creative, and in order to trigger their creativity, we can try to push them to be collavorative. They need to be mindful in their learning and in their actions. Our students need to have a context when they are learning. My major issue with one of my students (Deniz -10 YO- a brilliant boi) is, he doesn't feel the need to know English. Most of the time, when I'm about to teach him English, my bag is filled with rubber chicken toys, cards and bells. Just to give him context.
Our students need to communicate and be assertive. Or sadly, the world will devour them. The real question is, what can we do to help our introverted students adapt to these settings? Post your ideas below!
